Where you can/can not install your satellite Dish
In the United States there are rules stating clearly where you
can or can not install a TV or Radio antenna such as a satellite
dish. These rules were adopted by the FCC in 1996 ( the OTARD Over
the Air Reception Devices rules).
The OTARD rules cover all types of properties (owned or rented)
therefore you can install your dish even if you are a tenant.
General requirements
- Satellite dish size: 1 meter (39.37 inches) or less
- Installation area: patio, balcony, etc where you have exclusive
access (NO common areas such as external walls, roof))
- Dish antenna must not extend out beyond the balcony, patio,
etc
If you don't meet the above requirements you can ask for your landlord/homeowners
association permission to install your dish. In some cases they
may not have such a strict policy on satellite dishes.
